Help! The bass end of the nut on my saz broke off, and it's glued into the neck pretty deep, so I can't take it out. Any ideas on how I could fix it? I thought maybe I could laminate a small strip of wood over it and saw the string grooves back into it.

Re: saz problem
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 7:03 AMI'd take it to a reputable luthier. The guy I've used for years here in Austin knew nothing about ouds and sazes, but he made me a new nut for both without much problem and for a very reasonable amount of money. I think guys that are used to carving nuts for guitars, mandonlins and basses wouldn't have a problem fixing yours. Plus, they'll know how to dig your broken one out and clean out all the glue without damaging your saz.

Re: saz problem
Tue, June 3, 2008 - 7:02 AMHey - I have a saz problem too!
The middle string on the triple pair keeps breaking - at the moment it's tuned low (Db Gb Ab - using a notation according to which a classical guita would be E A D G B E), with one string an octave below, and the next in unison. Either I have the weight wrong -- but this is from a packet - or I'm tuning the thing totally wrong.
How do you tune it?? (it's a 19 fret one). Ever had this problem?
